Leonard, Elmore. SIGNED CONTRACT FOR 3:10 TO YUMA

$3,750.00

For The Rights to Leonard's Story "3:10 to Yuma." Dated March 19, 1956. 20 pages on rectos only. Signed by Leonard and producer David Heilwell. With pertinent details of the agreement written in ink and initialled by Leonard on several pages of the contract. Heilwell produced the 1957 classic Western and Delmore Daves directed it. Van Heflin and Glenn Ford portrayed the lead roles.

Leonard was paid but $4000 for the screen rights to the story, a sum for his work that would be dwarfed in the ensuing years as Leonard's novels such as "Jackie Brown" and "Get Shorty" were adapted into major motion pictures.

Accompanying the contract are three photographs depicting the main characters confronting each other, along with a TLS on the letterhead of the film's director, Delmer Daves, in which he thanks his correspondent for sending him reviews of "3:10 To Yuma."

All in all, graphic documentary details of an early stage of the critical and popular success of Elmore Leonard's storied career. Fine.
